Reflexology or Foot Massage?

It doesn't matter to me what you call it just as long as you try it.  Some people put off trying Reflexology
because they are confused about exactly what it is.  Yes the word "Reflexology" sounds scary but it isn't.  If it
helps you to try it and it is easier for you to pronounce, then by all means call it a good old fashion foot rub or
massage.

Reflexology is really more than just a foot massage though.  How so?
Reflexology uses a little more pressure than a regular foot massage
There are particular areas called reflexes that are manipulated with finger and thumb pressure
Usually there are no oils or lotions used
What is Reflexology?

Definition:

The definition that I subscribe to is: Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that
there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs and
parts of the body. Reflexology is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex
areas.
What can Reflexology do for me?

What can it do for me?

1. Reflexology can relieve stress and tension. Studies by the American Medical Association have also shown the negative effects
of stress on health. They say stress is a factor in more than 75 percent of all illness and disease today. Stress can cause
imbalance in the body causing an increase or decrease in hormonal levels  which may result in the body's immune system to not
work as efficiently as it should. Therefore it is very important health wise to reduce the stress and tension in our lives.

2. Reflexology can improve nerve and blood supply and promote the unblocking of nerve impulses. To give an example, when we
come upon a stressful situation the body secretes adrenalin into our blood stream to help us deal with whatever the problem is. It
helps us to "fight or flight." Adrenalin causes the muscles to tighten and contract, and it also increases the heart rate. This can be
a good thing when we need it to deal with a stressful situation every now and then. The problem is when we stay stressed and
stress becomes part of our daily life, then these tight contracted muscles choke the blood supply and nerve impulses in our body.
The body then cannot get the nutrients and oxygen it so desperately needs. The body also cannot get the messages the brain is
sending through the nervous system causing the body to become unbalanced.

3. Reflexology helps the body to normalize and balance itself, helping the body to reach homeostasis.
